Legal Theory/ Philosophy of law  is the branch of legal studies that examines the nature, purpose, sources, and functioning of law. Rather than focusing on what specific laws say, it explores what law is, why it exists, how it should be interpreted, and how it relates to justice, morality, politics, and society.

The course introduces students to the major schools of legal thought, including Natural Law Theory, Legal Positivism, Historical School,  Jurisprudence, Legal Realism , Feminist Legal Theory, and Critical Legal Studies. It also examines fundamental concepts such as justice, rights, legal reasoning, the rule of law, legal interpretation, and the relationship between law and ethics.
